It was a memorable day for 10 students of Abott Girls Secondary School, Ihiala, Anambra State as they were given scholarships up to university level by The Light Givers Foundation. The event, which took place at the school premises on 9th of June, 2023, involved an examination conducted for selected indigent students of the school from where the best ten candidates in the examination emerged the beneficiaries of the gesture, which is worth tens of millions of naira.

It all began as a promise made in April to the school by the founder and financier of The Light Givers Foundation, High Chief Stanley Obodoagwu, Ezeudo Gburugburu. As part of a series of events to mark the obsequies of his father, Late Eugene Obodoagwu, the Ihiala, Anambra State-born business tycoon promised a scholarship from secondary school to university level for ten indigent students of the school.

The promise was fulfilled in full as officials of the school, representatives from the Anambra State Ministry of Education and some political leaders in the community witnessed a transparent process through which the beneficiaries were selected.
In her speech before the examination which involved 45 students, the Secretary of The Light Givers Foundation, Dr. Onyinye Okeke, told the students that they were not selected because they were the brightest but for the fact that they are the ones the organization believe that the gesture will impact most on their lives, urging them to take the opportunity on offer.
In his speech, Hon. Afam Ononkwo, Councilor representing Ogburu Ward 5 in Ihiala Local Government Council thanked High Chief Obodoagwu and The Light Givers Foundation for consistently coming to the aid of the less privileged.
At the end of the exercise, two students were selected each through JSS1 to SS1, one student was selected from SS2 and one student was selected from SS3, bringing the total number of students to ten.
Present at the event was Dr. Chukwuka Uzo Eto, member representing Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Nnewi Zone in Awka, Mrs. Umennadi Eziamaka, the Zonal Director of Education, Nnewi Zone and the school principal Dr. (Mrs.) Sabina Chukwunedum.

The Light Givers Humanitarian Foundation is a charity organisation founded in 2019, by High Chief Obodoagwu. Through the foundation, he has sponsored a private execution of community projects, offered free scholarships to many indigent persons from primary to tertiary level education, provided shelter for many homeless families and sponsored free health care projects.
The foundation strives to promote love, save lives, improve global health, groom and mentor youths, and collaborate with other civil society and human rights organizations to alleviate poverty, health challenges, support education, improve living conditions of individuals and promote community development. The foundation with some partners has pledged to embrace and enhance humanity in diverse ways by consistent donations to philanthropy.
