The novel corona virus is an infectious disease caused by a new strain of corona virus first discovered in Wuhan, the Hubei region of China. “CO” stands for corona “VI” for virus and “D” stands for disease. The disease was first referred to as “2019 novel-corona virus”. This covid-19 virus is linked to the same family of viruses such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). It is also related to some types of common cold. In a bit to slow the rate of spread of the virus, the Federal Government of Nigeria imposed a total lockdown and closure of interstate boarders in collaboration with other states to cushion the effect of corona virus nationwide.
The Light Givers Humanitarian Foundation (TLGHF) issued the first phase of the economic stimulus and relief package of Covid-19 on 11th April and 16th April 2020 respectively.
The objective of the package is to address the negative economic and social effects steaming from total lockdown within the period of three (3) Months. The first phase of Covid-19 relief package amounts to Ten Million Five Hundred and Fifty Six Thousand naira (N10,556,000). The Light Givers Humanitarian Foundation (TLGHF) donated one thousand (1,000) bags of rice to support the woman of Ihiala Local Government with the view to cushion the effect of the #stayathome order issued by the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the items were distributed among the women of Akwa Ihiala Village,Ezi Umuezeawala community and to the entire Ihiala community, Ihiala Local Government Area Anambra state.
The second phase of Covid-19 relief package was carried out on 25th April 2020 on the basis of human capital development to ease the tension that characterized with the effect of the lockdown as it affects every aspect of human activities. The Light Givers Humanitarian Foundation (TLGHF) gave One Hundred and Ten(110) youths of Ihiala community Local Government Ten Thousand Naira(N10,000) each which amounts to One Million One Hundred and Ten Thousand Naira(1,110,000) to ensure the rights to food and other basic necessities during the Covid-19 lockdown. However, millions of Nigerians observing the covid-19 lockdown lack food and income that their families need to survive: the lockdown, however, prevents many Nigerians working in informal sectors from traveling to work or conducting their businesses. Local food vendors and traders have expressed fears over their ability to feed their families during the lockdown, with their daily earnings seems to be their only source of income.
